Opportunities ✍
Travel Writers (via Katie Hammel): “Call for travel pitches. I've recently started a new role — and while I can't spill all the details yet, I can tell you we're building something exciting, and I need talented writers to help bring it to life. If you're an experienced travel writer (clips required), I'd love to hear from you. Here's what I'm looking for:
✈️ Destination experts
I have a list of service-oriented articles to assign — think "how to visit on a budget," "how to get around," "where to stay." If you know a place inside and out, I want to know about you. For now, we're focused primarily on North America, Western Europe, and the world's most popular cities among the 50+ American traveler set — so Chicago over Cairns, London over Lagos.
🚢 Cruise reviewers
Taken a popular sailing in the last two years and have your own images? I'm especially interested in Europe, the Caribbean, and Alaska.
🌍 Unique travel stories for the 50+ traveler
Aspirational, inspirational, "I had no idea I could do that" stories. Also especially interested in pieces on accessible travel, solo travel, and multi-generational trips with an emphasis on value.
A few important details: This is a future launch, so I'm commissioning evergreen content that will be relevant from late 2025 into 2027. I have a lot to assign so please don't be discouraged if you don't hear back immediately. I'll be working through pitches as fast as I can”.
Writers (via Laura Scalco): “Looking to commission writers covering culture, design, travel, fashion, and contemporary social trends - very much in the world of Air Mail, HTSI or Cabana”.
Wine Cellar Doors: Writers: “Wine Cellar Door’s publishing model is built to ensure wine’s continuing cultural relevance, and to fund the people and projects who make that happen. We commission and publish work from writers, filmmakers, and photographers across traditional and independent media, because the stories that bring visitors to vineyards come from all of them. Stories about vineyards and the experience of visiting them. Written articles. Short films. Photo essays. First-person accounts. Profiles of the people behind the vines. Explorations of a region, a season, a single afternoon”. Articles are £0.25 per word and long features are a flat rate of £500.
Washington Monthly: Writers (via Kainoa Lowman): “Excited to share I’ve joined Monthly as an editor. I’ll be writing and editing politics, policy, and econ stories. Please send me pitches, half-baked ideas, or just say hi: klowman@washingtonmonthly.com.”
National Geographic: Writers (via Marti): “Happy to announce I’m back at National Geographic for a while assigning and editing animal stories. If you’ve got a great animal pitch that’ll wow me, I’d love to read it: marti.trgovich@natgeo.com.”
